The Wild Conference

A new approach and unusual venue organized by Slunglow thru Arts Council of England, the first Wild Conference in Temple Newsam, Leeds UK. They have a very interesting set-up, we have to wear headphones and navigate thru different channels then we have the freedom to choose which talk should we listen/attend to while we can have drinks, coffee, food, even play with dogs at the same time. But my favorite thing to do was to explore the area where there are lots of trees, wide meadows, and walk around in a 500-meter perimeter from the venue because when you passed that distance you lose the connection. Not to mention, marveling at the wild squirrels between trees, large crows and brown sheep on the hills.

Their resource speakers were varied and very interesting, some came from abroad. My favorite talks so far were "The Role and Evolution of Kinesthetic", "the Importance of Body Language" and "Permaculture". Usually during lunch we had the chance to meet different people from respective professional creative or community-engaged work either working for themselves as founder or working for the government/institution. So far the conference was successful and as expected the second one for sure will be better. At the end, I gained friends from the British Council delegation and learning about what they do made me realize that there were people born to lead and their hearts are really for the community. I am looking forward to connect with them again in the future and maybe establish a platform where we can discuss openly about our current projects, how to improve it through information sharing and insightful critiquing.

I am grateful for Miss Angel Flores of the British Council Philippines for recommending for this special event and to Tania Mahmoud, Rebecca Wignall, Kathy Mc Ardle and team for selecting me as one of the delegates to represent the Philippines. The British Council did their best to support us in all aspects. Ultimately, they even choose me to experience the one-week long cultural art residency at Wirksworth, Derbyshire because they thought that I am fit for Haarlem Art Space.
